This is the third in what I expect to be a long series of big aerial views of our spectacular country.
This maple is as old as Canada and grows on the banks of the main Saugeen.
Much of our summers are spent paddling the Saugeen watershed. I was thrilled to win the popular choice award, largely because it meant that many of us feel the same way about our extraordinary rivers.
I took the reference photo from a bridge above the Rocky Saugeen near Traverston. It was a joy to paint because the bleached bones of fallen cedars contrasted the richness of the river bottom.
