“I am mostly self taught, but enjoy taking workshops with other artists to learn and continue growing as an artist and teacher. This past year, my paintings incorporated watercolours with water-soluble pens, batik and using rice paper in replacement of watercolour paper. This new approach allowed me to grow as an artist and discover new ways to display my art. My Hanover Art Studio provides a great atmosphere to teach workshops.
My paintings are on exhibit and sale in local business establishments in the Hanover and Walkerton area. Private commissions always welcome!”
Janet is a native of Kitchener, Ontario. After studying Canadian native cultures and religious studies at the University of Toronto, she moved to Elphinstone, Manitoba, and lived for three years near Riding Mountain National Park. Here, she deepened her interest in native arts and culture and studied the Saulteaux language, healing herbs, wild flowers and wildlife. Then, Janet lived three years in Brandon where she studied the spirituality of various traditions, drama, native studies, and English at Brandon University, before coming back home to Kitchener to work with the family business.
Now, Janet enjoys time spent with friends and family, including her mother, daughter and two, dear grandchildren. She now lives in a cottage on a small lake near Elmwood, Ontario. Her interests include watercolours, travel, writing, photography and will soon hold art classes in the Elmwood/Hanover areas.
Janet began to develop a serious interest in watercolour painting in 2004. She has studied with artists, Ardythe Campbell and Marion Anderson of Kitchener and New Dundee, Art Cunanan of Collingwood, and Gordon MacKenzie of Sault Ste. Marie.
Janet Liesemer was born and raised in Toronto where she studied Interior Design at a local College. After working in the city for many years outside of her field of interest, Janet found herself frustrated by her lack of time and energy for her true passion: art. Her move to Walkerton in 2000 brought her back full circle to art where she began a small business “Paint by Design”, specializing in interior painting and murals.
Basically a self-taught watercolour & acrylic artist, Janet enjoys trying to reflect her personal connection with God and His wonderful creation in her paintings. Her love of travel has contributed to her artwork, from the hiking trails of Vermont, the bright colours and architecture of Mexico to the rolling hills of England. All are a source of inspiration.
Janet currently resides with her husband, in the picturesque village of Ayton, On. Janet participates in local art shows and is a full-time exhibitor at the Southampton Art Gallery. Her work is also displayed and sold at The Spotted Moose in Mount Forest.
