Barbara Pearn grew up in Southwestern Ontario on a working farm. She loved to walk in the bush and look at the many native plants that grew there. As a young girl, she enjoyed painting in watercolours. While growing up, Barbara continued to enjoy painting and developed techniques of her own.

Barbara graduated from Conestoga College in the 3 year Graphic and Advertising Design program. She worked as a graphic designer for 15 years in Toronto working on such accounts as Shoppers Drug Mart, Sears, The Bay. She founded and operates Colourpix which specializes in graphic and website design for a wide variety of clients which have included Hilton Hotels Canada, Kiwaniss, Central Ontario Interiors Magazine, Simcoe Life Magazine and Grey Roots. Her company designs and produces The Art Map, which features artist studios and gallery locations throughout Grey, Bruce, Manitoulin Island and Southern Georgian Bay.

Barbara’s painting style is directly opposite of the control demanded in her graphic art. Her acrylic and oil pieces are bold, graphic and impressionistic in a style unique to Barbara. Her paintings are alive with colour and texture. Experimenting and pushing her personal limits ensures that her work is continually changing and evolving. Today, as in her childhood, the natural environment remains the greatest influence on Barbara’s work.
